About your artwork, it looks amazing so far. I see a couple big issues, though. First, Nyx is black. Like, jet-black, and with a deep purple mane. She's literally the Nightmare incarnate. Also, she's an alicorn. Where are her wings?
And about the issues... yes, I know she is black. That is hard to express without losing lots of details, as I'm still just experimenting with colors. And I realized the wing issue too. I'll try to fix it as well as I can, but honestly? I just forgot to draw them, I was so wrapped up in all other things. I've never enjoyed drawing pegasi anyway.
But hey, thanks for commenting! I love constructive criticism, and don't get enough of it!
As for the fanfiction, you're missing out if you stop with just Past Sins. Yes, Past Sins is a VERY high-quality example of the genre, but there are other exceptionally good, novel-length (and even a few incredible epic-length) fanfics out there. I'm an extremely picky reader, so if you want some reading suggestions, I can help you filter out the trash, so-to-speak.
And I would just love that! I gotta admit, I've been slightly reluctant to wade in to the fanfic area. Unlike with pictures, you can't tell by one glance the generic idea. And I'm a little spooked by some of the excessive, gruesome over-sexualized and overly violent things I've seen.
I have a mixed opinion about violence in FIMfics. Instances are rare where it both fits in the ponies' universe and is necessary for plot advancement. But when it's done correctly, it's neither overly-violent nor gratuitous. Violence (or the threat thereof) can be a very effective literary tool for emotional ensnarement when done properly.
If you want some suggested reading material, feel free to drop me a note privately and let me know what types of stories you enjoy. I've read WAY too much FIM fanfiction.
And yes, I agree that when well done, sexuality can serve a purpose, but when it's the idea itself, wel... not my thing. And the same goes to violence. For example, I think that Past Sins has potential for more violence than it utilizes without being overly so. IMO, ponies might have turned on Twilight because she sheltered Nyx, and because she went to her and prevented the use of Elements of Harmony.
And I'll be sure to drop a note off.
Yet in the end ponies seemed to shun Nyx only, not Twilight also. It could be due to her being so close to Celestia, but I suppose not everyone would know that?
All in all, Past Sins was very enjoyable and true to the personalities of the ponies.
